EFCC vs BELLO: Handiwork of Political Detractors – By Abubakar Rajab

It is regrettable that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been perceived to deviate from professionalism in its prosecution of the former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.

The lack of formality in extending invitations to Bello for the purpose of clarifying allegations, without written notices, reflects a departure from standard procedural norms.

Furthermore, allegations of collusion between the EFCC and opposition lawyers, notably Okutepa SAN and Falana SAN, to persecute and intimidate Bello, if proven true, would undermine the integrity of the legal process.

The EFCC’s defiance of a court order restraining it from pursuing arrest warrants raises suspicions of ulterior motives. This apparent disregard for judicial directives suggests a veiled agenda at play.

The suggestion that EFCC actions against Bello are influenced by political motivations, particularly orchestrated by opposition factions, underscores the need for impartiality and adherence to due process.

In the face of these allegations, it is imperative that the EFCC upholds the principles of justice, free from political bias. The desperation exhibited by opposition lawyers to incarcerate Bello, ostensibly to influence ongoing tribunal proceedings, underscores the need for vigilance against manipulation of legal processes for partisan ends.

Again, Bello’s perceived political influence poses a threat to his adversaries, driving their concerted efforts to undermine his standing through legal calculations and disposition.
