In a tragic incident on Friday, February 6, 2025, Aliyu Imran, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), was brutally murdered by a mob in Gadan-Gayan, Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The horrific events unfolded during a pursuit of a suspected drug dealer. As the suspect attempted to flee, he reversed his vehicle, hitting and killing at least three people on the spot. The officers, including Aliyu, had been chasing the suspect when the accident occurred.

Tensions escalated in the aftermath of the crash, and Aliyu attempted to calm the situation. However, the crowd turned hostile and attacked him. While the Officer in Charge (OC) called for backup, his colleagues reportedly fled the scene, leaving Aliyu behind to face the enraged mob.

A police officer rushed Aliyu to a nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save him. However, the mob tracked them to the hospital, dragged Aliyu out, and set him on fire while he was still alive, clinging to life.

This brutal act left his family devastated, especially his wife, who had only married Aliyu in December 2024. His sudden death has caused immense grief, and his family has accused the NDLEA of neglect, claiming that the agency failed to offer condolences or any form of compensation.

Sources within the NDLEA have also alleged that such incidents are often suppressed and that families receive little recognition or support when officers lose their lives in the line of duty.

In response to the incident, Femi Babafemi, the NDLEA’s spokesperson, confirmed that the agency is in close contact with Aliyu’s family. He stated that a delegation from the NDLEA had been dispatched to Kaduna to meet with the family and address the situation.

Babafemi also revealed that the commander involved in the operation has been suspended and assured the public that the agency is thoroughly investigating the events surrounding the tragedy. The NDLEA has expressed its commitment to uncovering the truth and providing ongoing support to the grieving family while recognizing the gravity of the loss.
