PRESS RELEASE BY AREWA YOUTHS FOR PEACEFUL COEXISTENCE CONDEMNING THE TRAGIC INCIDENT IN UROMI
Date: March 28, 2025
The Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence strongly condemns the barbaric and inhumane act of jungle justice that led to the gruesome killing and burning of 16 innocent travelers in Udune Efandion, Uromi, Edo State, on March 27, 2025. This senseless act of violence, based on false accusations and mob hysteria, is not only a grave violation of human rights but also a stain on our collective humanity.
As an organization committed to unity, peace, and coexistence among all Nigerians, we find this act utterly unacceptable. It is disheartening that in this modern age, individuals would resort to taking the law into their own hands rather than following due legal processes. The incident in Uromi is a painful reminder of the dangers posed by jungle justice, which continues to claim innocent lives across our country.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims, and we stand in solidarity with them in this difficult time. We also commend the Edo State Government and security agencies for their swift intervention and call for a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that those responsible for this heinous crime are brought to justice.

Arewa Youths for Peaceful Coexistence reiterates the urgent need for national reorientation against mob actions and extrajudicial killings. We urge traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to educate their followers on the importance of respecting human life and upholding the rule of law.
Furthermore, we call on the government to intensify efforts in sensitizing the public on conflict resolution mechanisms, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. Every Nigerian, irrespective of ethnic or religious background, has the right to safety and security within any part of the country.
We demand that justice be served swiftly and fairly, as failure to act decisively will only embolden those who believe they can take laws into their own hands without consequences. This must never happen again in our country.
We call on all Nigerians to stand against jungle justice and uphold the principles of law, justice, and peace. Let us work together to build a nation where every citizen can coexist harmoniously without fear of senseless attacks.
