IN a bid to ease difficulties in obtaining passport booklets in the country, the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Isa Idris, has issued directives for passport offices across the country to open on Saturdays.
A communiqué issued by NIS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Comptroller Tony Akuneme, stated that the “action is expected to enable more people access the document and clear backlog occasioned by the 2020 and 2021 lockdown due to the COVID-19.”
According to the circular, the CG also approved the immediate redeployment of two passport comptrollers, in Ondo and Ekiti states, as part of efforts to sanitize the system and improve the process of passport issuance across the country.
The communiqué read in part: “Mr. Idris has resolved to leave no stone unturned, in the desire to make passport services available and stress-free to the travelling public.”
