Democracy Day: Igala Progressives Demand Infrastructural Development in Kogi East

A political interest group, Igala Progressive Movement for Tinubu 2027, has called on the Nigerian government to consider Kogi East in terms of appointments and infrastructural developments in the country.

This was part of the charge given at a press briefing held in Lokoja, Kogi state capital, in commemoration of Nigeria’s Democracy Day (June 12).

While addressing journalists, the National Coordinator of the forum, Comr Moses Onuche frowned at the pitiable situation and underdevelopment in Igala land.

“The Igala Nation has suffered an unfortunate measure of neglect, especially in the Tinubu government. The current state of infrastructural decay is not a welcome development because we canvassed and voted massively for Tinubu during the last general election, but we are not benefiting from the government.

“We are not ignorant of the fact that we have a Federal Minister, but it is obvious he is not in tune with current realities in Kogi East. He is not advancing the democratic tenets in the region. Politics is not a personal business venture, and we should not encourage lopsided development.

“We are celebrating 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, but the Igala Nation is yet to enjoy the dividends of democracy, especially under this dispensation. We (the Igala people) should not only be useful during elections when our vote is needed. To this end, we are calling on President Tinubu to do the needful.

“Most of the road networks in Kogi East are an eyesore. Insecurity is fast becoming the order of the day, as kidnapping is now a booming business in the region. Armed gunmen including herdsmen are ravaging the region causing havoc with reckless abandon. This must not continue. We need federal presence in Kogi East because the ongoing neglect is a threat to democratic attainments”.
