Politics is indeed a game of numbers, not rocket science. When a game-changer takes center stage, the ball rolls with remarkable achievements and well-deserved accolades. This is the current political landscape in Nigeria, with more developments on the horizon. All hail JAGABAN, the Master Strategist! President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is firmly in charge—a pathfinder of unity, peace, and progress.
The recent wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not only an eye-opener but a political tsunami worthy of study. This trend also signals that Nigeria’s democracy is maturing rapidly, as politicians adapt to the evolving realities of political interplay. For the first time, Nigerian politicians appear more united than ever, reducing the destructive criticism often fueled by detractors and mischief-makers.
The resounding call to join hands in building the Nigeria of our dreams is fast becoming a reality, moving beyond the empty promises and self-serving manifestos of the past politicians. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is arguably the most transformative figure in Nigeria’s recent history. His leadership has proven equal to the task, fostering an era of collaborative governance that transcends Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
Since 1999, the country has enjoyed uninterrupted democracy with a multiparty system. The APC rose to prominence after the 2015 General Election, which ushered in President Muhammadu Buhari. A close examination of the party’s journey reveals the pivotal role of Bola Tinubu, then a former governor of Lagos State, as a key architect of its success.
Pundits may debate the APC’s prospects in the 2027 elections, but the writing is on the wall for those with discernment. While the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), which held power for 16 years, has become a shadow of its former self, the APC continues to grow stronger, standing like a tower unshaken by the storms of the high seas.
In stark contrast, the so-called coalition—African Democratic Congress (ADC)—is faltering due to its flawed foundation and subsequent collapse. The ADC’s leadership comprises aggrieved members of a defunct party, lacking clear direction or cohesion. Currently, the ADC survives on life support, undermined by the intrigues and deceptive agendas of its supposed foot soldiers.
Democracy thrives in societies where stakeholders periodically align their efforts. If the APC was not making tangible progress, we would witness the emergence of another wave of critics and self-styled crusaders for justice. However, the current trend of key stakeholders joining the APC’s moving train reflects a collective desire to avoid being left behind.
This strongly suggests that the 2027 election is already tilting in favor of the APC. President Tinubu is willing, able and ready for a second term, promising Nigerians the full dividends of democracy. In just two days, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State defected from the PDP to the APC, bringing along his supporters and predecessor.
His counterpart in Bayelsa, Governor Douye Diri, followed suit. This political realignment is commendable, even though it spells doom for the ADC and further weakens the PDP’s fragile structure.
President Tinubu is playing his cards masterfully, leaving no one behind. As the APC extends a hand of fellowship to other political actors, the days ahead elucidates colourful intrigues and strategic maneuvering, with political elites positioning themselves for 2027.
