Arewarmu Duniyarmu, in conjunction with the African Chiefdom Council, on Saturday conferred distinguished traditional titles on Hon. (Chief) Emeka Sampson Chukwu and his wife, Amb. (Dr) Rita I. Chukwu, in recognition of their contributions to human development and social cohesion across Nigeria and Africa.

The conferment ceremony, held in Abuja, drew traditional rulers, policymakers, dignitaries, and development stakeholders from across the continent.

Chief Emeka Chukwu was honoured with the title Garkuwa Igbo na Africa, while Amb. Dr. Rita I. Chukwu received the title Zinariya Garkuwa Igbo na Africa. Organisers said the titles were bestowed in acknowledgment of the couple’s dedication to community development, promotion of unity among ethnic groups, and advancement of empowerment initiatives for women and vulnerable populations.

Speaking at the event, representatives of the African Chiefdom Council stated that the Chukwus were selected based on their “impactful interventions and sustained commitment to development-driven causes.”

“They represent the true spirit of leadership and service,” a council representative said. “Their contributions to community development and dedication to promoting unity make them worthy recipients of these distinguished titles.”

In their acceptance remarks to journalists, Hon. Chief Emeka S. Chukwu and Amb. Dr. Rita I. Chukwu described the honour as both recognition and responsibility.

“We are deeply honoured by this recognition,” they said. “It is not just an award, but a call to do more. We remain committed to supporting initiatives that advance the welfare, empowerment, and unity of African people.”

The couple pledged to continue collaborating with stakeholders, institutions, and organisations that share the vision of a more inclusive, peaceful, and progressive Africa.

Arewarmu Duniyarmu and the African Chiefdom Council reaffirmed their commitment to promoting partnerships that drive sustainable development, peace, and unity across the continent. They noted that such recognitions are designed to celebrate individuals making lasting contributions to society.

The event also served as a platform for dialogue and networking among participants from various African countries, including business leaders and development partners. Discussions focused on strengthening women’s participation in leadership, enhancing community development strategies, and fostering cross-cultural collaboration.

The conferment of the titles Garkuwa Igbo na Africa and Zinariya Garkuwa Igbo na Africa stands as recognition of individuals championing positive change and shaping a more united and prosperous Africa.
