A prominent political figure in Kogi East, Hon. (Chief) Joseph Erico, has officially declared his intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

The declaration followed a three-day consultation tour which commenced on Friday, April 24, 2026, and culminated in Ankpa on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

The tour covered key local government areas including Dekina, Olamaboro, and Idah, where the aspirant engaged stakeholders and sought royal blessings.

During his visit to Dekina, Chief Erico formally unveiled his ambition to party leaders and supporters. The event attracted a large turnout from across the Igala/Bassa nation, with many attendees including the Executive Chairman, Hon John Urah acknowledging his longstanding humanitarian contributions across the nine local government areas of Kogi State.

In Olamaboro Local Government Area, the campaign train visited his hometown, where he further consulted with critical party stakeholders and reaffirmed his resolve to represent Kogi East in the Senate.

As part of his consultation efforts, Chief Erico also paid homage to traditional rulers. Notably, he visited the palace of High Chief John Egwemi, the paramount ruler of Ibaji, alongside other respected leaders across Igala land; notable amongst whom are the Ejeh of Ofu, Alh Akwu Obaje, Ejeh Olamaboro, Chief Simon Ujah, the Etemayi of Igala-Mela, Chief Abel Etuh. The campaign team also visited the residence of Alh Sani Shaibu, a former Accountant General of the state at his residence.

Highlight of the exercise was observed on Sunday with a visit to the palace of the Ejeh of Ankpa, where he received royal blessings.

Addressing his supporters afterward, Chief Erico expressed confidence in the journey ahead, while his supporters pledged their full backing.

Excerpt from His Declaration Speech titled:

“A Voyage of Transformation, Peace and Progress”.

In his declaration speech, Chief Erico described his ambition as a collective mission aimed at repositioning Kogi East for growth and development.

“I stand before you today as a humble servant and your brother. This is our journey, and together, we shall celebrate victory in 2027,” he said.

He emphasized his commitment to effective representation, promising to deliver the dividends of democracy and remain accessible to the people.

“My vision for the peace, unity, and development of the Igala/Bassa nation has endured for decades. I am here as a loyal servant, seeking your mandate to represent you in the National Assembly,” he stated.

Chief Erico further assured the people of integrity and accountability in leadership, pledging not to betray their trust.

“This is a solemn promise: I will not disappoint you. No one will be left behind. Together, we shall transform our land and harness its full potential,” he added.

He concluded by formally declaring his candidacy:

“It is on this note that I, Chief Dr. Joseph Erico Ameh, hereby declare my intention to contest the Kogi East Senatorial election in 2027. This is not just my mandate—it is the people’s mandate. Join me on this journey.”
